Belle of Mid Ulster Press Release 2018

Would you like to be the next Belle of Mid-Ulster 2018?

The event which aims is to promote the diversity of women is open to all females over 18 years who have ancestry links or who currently reside in the Mid-Ulster area. It is not a beauty pageant and does not come with the normal restrictions that rule out many ladies from entering these types of events.

Janice Gibson from the Belle of Mid-Ulster Association, a cross-community group who are organising the event, explained that the Belle of Mid-Ulster event is a platform to promote the diversity of Mid-Ulster women and to showcase the Mid-Ulster area as a great place to live, work and visit. The only restrictions are that ladies must have ancestry links to the Mid-Ulster or reside in the area and must be over 18 years. Janice said we had 22 ladies in last year’s final who all had amazing stories to tell and their ages ranged from 18 to over 60 years old. I just wish that every single woman we met during the heats could have went through to final as they all had inspirational stories to tell. There are many women in our community doing remarkable things whether it is for their community, families or careers, one lady who springs to mind had worked for NASA designing space suits another lady originally from Poland had better general knowledge of the Mid-Ulster area than anyone I ever met.

Although it was extremely successful last year the Belle of Mid- Ulster committee have decided to reduce the number of contestants to a maximum of 14 for this years’ final. Janice said last year was our first year and having 22 contestants made it a very long night for those who were attending the event. Our aim is to eventually grow the event into a festival and increase the number of contestants again.

The official press launch for the Search for the Belle of Mid-Ulster 2018 is at the Royal Hotel on the Thursday 15th February 2018 at 7pm.
